Live reviews
Monday 12th September. The Boileroom. Danny and the Champions of the World. Apologies for the brief review this time and it’s no disrespect to Danny and the guys. The Boileroom is living up to its name tonight on one of the hottest ever nights in September. It’s a great local venue and they are putting on some good music.
I remember first seeing Danny and his brother in Grand Drive seventeen years ago at the Embassy Rooms in London which is now Spearmint Rhino and I have been a fan ever seen. I have seen him many times either heading or at many supporting slots around the capital.
The sound has changed over the years form its pure American roots with a more soulful side that really accentuates Wilson’s voice. With no album to promote this is the last night of a jaunt around these isles for no good reason but to play live music.
The band are incredibly tight and they rattle through ninety minutes of great songs. It’s a very upbeat set and showcases the musician ample talents. The knowledgeable audience of fans know a lot of words and clap in all the right places. All the old favourites are here with props to ‘old space rocket’ and ‘this is not a love song’
A great night out with a band on top form just playing music and having a good time.
Keep on rockin y’all.
Just seen Danny and the champs again at the borderline- they had the place rocking just like they did at the boileroom, Guildford a year before. This time over 300 people were there to see. How has this band not made it? They have everything: great voice, very tight and talented band and very melodic songs. And they seem to enjoy every minute of their performance whether it's the big crowd in London or the 80 or so in Guildford- the enthusiasm is amazingly infectious. They must go down a storm at festivals. Sadly like Graham Parker and the Rumour they were probably not meant for these times. Anyway I hope they are making a good living- and can't wait to see them again. Rock on Danny!
Saw Danny and the band last Saturday at Poynton, Bluefunk Club (Cheshire) - fantastic show - wonderful voice - great guitarist - great songs -the whole band superb musicians.
Wonderful, wonderful evening - now waiting for albums to arrive.
A MUST SEE.
