This was my first time at Cecil Sharp House, as well as my first time hearing Karine Polwart live. It was a very genteel experience, with the audience seated throughout. Most were on chairs in the centre of the room, but my cousin and I chose to sit around the edge of the room on a slightly raised stage.
KP has a wonderful voice. She sang a number of songs from her recent album "Traces", plus several from previous albums including some requests (sent in advance). She was very much at ease with the audience, telling interesting and amusing tales between the songs. It would have been nice to see her backing singers in person, rather than hear them in recorded form, but this is only a minor whinge. I look forward to visiting the venue again, and hopefully this won't be the last time I see Karine perform. An enjoyable evening - 8 out of 10.
The Karine Polwart gig at The Wedgewood Rooms was as always a superb evening of stories, great songs and humour. Her songwriting is both interesting and touching and with the addition of some lovely guitar from her brother Steven and superb percussion & accordion accompaniament from Inge Thompson, who also was given a spot on her own to play a special short piece of `music & sound experience`,along with the tale of the Mole Embryos, she gave us an evening to remember.Don`t miss it if you can help it!
