Rookie of the Year is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Ryan Dunson, who has played under this pseudonym for the best part of ten years. They have maintained such a fantastic and loyal following over the years with a sort of acoustic pop sound that makes audiences on both sides of the Atlantic sing at the top of their lungs, these epic songs with such beautifully constructed lyrics.
“Since I Left Your World” is probably one of the biggest songs of this set, with its atmospheric melodies, and guitars complete with chorus and delay on them. Dunson’s accent that he sings in is very American, but it has always suited the music in a big way. It’s that sort of TV series and Film music that they make, that could always be the soundtrack to something big. Their whole performance is one big passionate sing along. I’ll be honest, Rookie of the Year were a bit of a phase for me about ten years when they first rose to success, but seeing them live, just brings it all back. All of those firsts as a teenager that were compared to nothing, and so perfect at the time.
