What a great show. The Roxy is a great venue for an intimate jazz concert. It's an old factory building with an industrial feel about it. Capacity would be about 200, but I don't think there were quite that many people at Nils' concert.
Whatever, we really appreciated the intimacy, which was perfect for Nils Wuelker and his talented supporting band. Decade Live is the title of the tour, but the band played music from Nils' back catalogue of the last 10 - 15 years. Wuelker is a trumpet/fluegelhorn player par excellence, and the supporting band members are no less talented.
If you're a jazz fan, Nils Wuelker and band are a must.
Saw Pat Metheny last night and Linda was accompanying him. She was AWESOME! Her standup bass had a rich sound and she grooved second to none. She was jamming and held that bass like she was born with it in her hand. She definitely is accomplished and would love to see her play many more times. Her and Pat played one song together and it was incredibly beautiful and you could have heard a pin drop because the crowd was completely silence absorbing the delicate notes. Her emotions expressed into her playing was captivating and her love for her instrument and playing was loud and clear. She's awesome!
