The stage is set almost like an informal ballroom. Instead of a chandelier, a halo of lights hangs over the musicians. Strips of colored lights adorn the walls on either side of the stage. The band members are dressed in white button up t-shirts, black pants, and black ties. An electronic beat melds with the drums. Samuel Umberto Romano's clear voice rings out over the audience as he sings the opening lines of “Istrice”. Subsonica are an Italian rock band from Turin. They formed in 1996 and released their first album, SubsOnicA, in 1997. They followed that with Microchip Emozionale in 1999, Amorematico in 2002, Terrestre in 2005, L'Eclissi in 2007, Eden in 2011, and Una Nave In Una Foresta in 2014. They have achieved large commercial success, selling over 400,000 CDs. Subsonica produce a genre of rock that combines the typical drums, electric guitar, and bass with electronic sounds. The combination of electronica/techno and rock music may sound strange, but Subsonica pull it off very well. The result is a unique, at times almost disjointed sound which is surprisingly catchy. The Italian lyrics are clever and witty. Subsonica produce amazing music. Their performances are great, as they not only bring spectacular sound, but also creative sets. Subsonica fans, this band is a must see in concert.
