Mental as Anything are exactly as they say on the tin – Mental as Anything. They are one of the weirdest bands I think I have ever come across, having been together for a good thirty years at least, they have always brought to the table a little bit of a quirky atmosphere with their ironic sense of humour and strong visual identity.
I’ve got to admit that when I saw them, it was one of those nights where every single person in the place was drinking throughout their set, dancing around the room. They opened with “Nips Are Getting Bigger” which saw the singer, Martin Plaza doing star jumps as the song began. Of course, it encourages the whole audience to get involved with their star jumps too, with drink’s flying left and centre. “Live It Up” is one of the biggest songs of the night, with punters singing as loud as they can to this Australian band’s soundtrack to what crescendos into such a fun party.
