I really enjoy these Boiler Room sets that all of the great DJ’s come into do, where the atmosphere is very intimate. The audience a crowded around the decks, watching these fantastic DJs at work as they play through some of their biggest material to date in the space of anything from half an hour to an hour. Dixon is one of those DJs that has really built up a fantastic following from the start with his individual break beats and slightly melodic dark house music. He opens with a simple delay piano, playing over and over, which launches into such an inventive polyrhythm that sounds like it was influenced by that of an African Tribe. His sound is very much about the rhythms and the bass that carry the sound through. It’s not really melodies that structure these songs, more drones of vocals put through some reverb and delay filters. It’s very atmospheric and sounds transferable to the point that it could be used in a movie soundtrack.
