I’m not normally into punk music at all, but Save Ferris are so fresh and fantastic, you can’t help enjoying their music. Inspired by the 80s classic film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the original band members formed in the mid 90s. In their early years, the band toured extensively as support, and occasionally headline, gaining an impressive following. They released many albums, EPs, and singles, enjoying a successful career before they disbanded in 2004. This was met with much disappointment, and therefore their news to reform in 2012 was widely anticipated.
Monique Powell however, was the only original band member to participate in these performance. Some people detested this, but I thoroughly enjoyed the recent performance I saw of the newly refurbished Save Ferris. The sound was fresh and revitalised with the grounding originality of Powell’s incredible voice. Her range and power blasting out the original tracks had the entire crowd on their feet, even those dubious of the new angle of the band. As well as playing all of the hits, they jammed out some pretty cool sounding new tracks, leaving everyone hoping for some releases pretty soon! Monique has still got it, and her new band members add, not detract from the original sound.
