Foxes in FIction offers a live performance that goes beyond simply a rendition of his compositions. Instead, it is a musical and visual display that takes you on a dreamy journey of sonic and visual landscapes. Foxes in Fiction is the project of Warren Hildebrand, the founder of Toronto record label Orchid Tapes. As Fleet in Foxes, his music is full of swirling melodies drenched in reverb that is heavily laden with pop sensibilities. His performance at The Great Hall in California displayed Hildebrand's talents to create beautiful, expansive arrangements that seem to carry the listener away to a place of enchantment. It was electrifying and spine tingling, with Hildebrand slowly developing the songs into wonderfully swarming and enveloping songs that felt as if they surrounded the audience. WIth just his guitar , synth and various other effects, it really is incredible the sounds that he creates. Highlight was "Shadow's Song," with its soft, lilting vocals that drift across the gentle melodies. His album, "Ontario Gothic" was written following the death of his brother, with this in mind making his heartfelt songs dealing with his loss even more emotive, feeling as if Foxes in Fiction is sharing in his grief with the listener, as some cathartic release. It is truly beautiful music that is full of a humble energy with complex arrangements full of depth and intricacies.
