The lights go completely down as the xx chromosome fronted Butcher Babies (yep, that is definitely their band’s name) take to the stage. They are absolutely terrifying, but in such a way that you just want to hear and see more of what they’re doing. They are so intriguing with their metalcore sound, which isn’t for the feint hearted. They’re all about their growls and screams, and then launching into their choruses complete with the largest hooks, left right and centre - as if their image didn’t draw you us all in enough!
It is no surprise to me whatsoever that they often get mistaken for being ex-playmates with their image, and of course they consider themselves “slut metal” as they wear some of the raunchiest clothing you’ve ever seen. Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, the pin up girls that front this band, in fairness, do the best job at commanding the audience throughout this electric set. All in all, they have some extremely catchy songs, as they play songs such as “Magnolia Boulevard”, which has the entire audience singing.
