The band formed in 2006 by Knoxville residents Phil Bozeman on vocals, guitarists Ben Savage, Alex Wade and Ben Savage, bassist Gabe Crisp and drummer Kevin Lane. In 2007 after the release of a self-produced EP the band signed to the UK label Siege of Amida Records and Candlelight Records in the U.S., through which the band released their full-length debut “The Somatic Defilement”.
Before long Savage and Martin were replaced by guitarist Zach Householder and drummer Kevin Lane and signed with label Metal Blade. In 2008 arrived Whitechapel’s sophomore release “This Is Exile” after which they embarked on The Summer Slaughter Tour and their first headlining tour with Impending Doom and A Different Breed of Killer. Whitechapel’s fan base swelled with tour dates alongside popular acts such as Parkway Drive, Unearth and Trivium.
Produced by Jason Suecof, the band released their third album “A New Era of Corruption" in June 2010 debuting at No. 43 on the Billboard 200. The release led to featured spots at the California Metal Fest IV, 2010’s Warped Tour, a second stage show at the UK’s Download Festival and another U.S. headlining tour. Kevin Lane departed the group to return to college and was replaced by former Knights of the Abyss drummer Benjamin Harclerode.
In 2011 Whitechapel release the single “Section 8” ahead of a limited edition EP titled “Recorrupted”. The band embarked on another U.S. headlining tour named “The Recorruptour” before heading back to the studio with producer Mark Lewis to record their self-titled fourth LP. The album got its release in June 2012, debuted at No. 47 on the Billboard 200 and was led by the first single “Hate Creation”.
Whitechape’s fourth full-length album “Our Endless War” proved to be the band’s highest charting album reaching No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and topping the U.S. Hard Rock chart.
Lead vocalist Alex Koehler was formerly in a band called Ahazih, but once the band went through some lineup changes the members of the band started to call themselves Chelsea Grin. The band consists of six members, which allows them to accomplish musically intricate compositions. The band has three guitarists, permitting them to create a heavy rhythmic sound while the lead guitarist plays complicated riffs.
Not long after the band’s formation they released their self-titled EP in 2008, which was released on Statik Factory Records. The band would later sign to Artery Recordings and release their debut album “Desolation of Eden” in 2010. Their debut album was produced by Tim Lambesis from the band As I Lay Dying and did well on the charts reaching the No. 21 spot on the Top Heatseekers chart. The success of their album allowed the band to pursue a full US tour as well as garnered them praise in the “Alternative Press”.
In 2011 the band released their second studio album “My Damnation”, which showed Chelsea Grin stretching their creative abilities. The album focuses on lyrical themes pertaining to the afterlife and musically it featured more intricate guitar riffs and solos. The album also did well on the charts reaching the No. 6 spot on the US Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.
The band released their third studio album “Ashes to Ashes” in 2014, which contained the singles “Letters”, “Angels Shall Sin, Demons Shall Pray”, and “Playing with Fire”. The album also did well on the charts reaching No. 27 on the US Billboard 200. Although the band mainly records original material, they released a cover of the song “Right Now” by Korn.
Chelsea Grin has taken influence from many bands such as Deftones, Slayer, Atreyu and Megadeth. Their songs cover a variety of metal sounds ranging from doom metal to symphonic metal, but whatever they end up producing is sure to be heavy. The band is constantly touring and have played many sold out concerts while touring with bands such as Emure, Born of Osiris, Parkway Drive, and Every Time I Die. They have also been known to play festivals such as Vans Warped Tour.
The offshoot of punk known as deathcore is perhaps considered the most applicable genre tag when it comes to trying to actually categorize The Acacia Strain, but in truth, their sound is a blend of different styles - death metal and doom metal are both prevalent, as are hardcore, punk and noise rock. Their three-guitar lineup is key to the brutality of their sound, and they’ve also often relied on unsettling sampling to create sonic atmosphere. Bennett is now the only original member left in the band; drummer Kevin Boutot only joined in 2005, with bassist Jack Strong joining him in the rhythm section a year later. Dave Shidaker and Richard Gomez have handled guitar duties since 2013.
Bennett is the key figure in the band, with his aggressive onstage attitude something that’s mirrored by his nihilistic - and often misanthropic - lyricism. There’s no question, either, that Bennett has courted controversy by exploring themes of misogyny, violence and sexual deviancy in The Acacia Strain’s music; for some, though, this darkness is key to their appeal. They’ve increasingly made inroads on the American charts, with 2014‘s ‘Coma Witch’ reaching number thirty-one on the Billboard rundown in their homeland, despite the fact that their music is hardly striking as being especially commercial.
The group currently consist of five members: lead vocalist Hernan "Eddie" Hermida, guitarists Chris Garza and Mark Heylmun, bassist Dan Kenny and drummer Alex Lopez. Many of the members were already working on separate projects at the time of formation, but these were eventually dropped as they chose to focus on Suicide Silence, realising the enormous potential of the band.
Indeed, the band has enjoyed success, gaining the praise of many musical heavy weights and receiving favourable reviews. In 2009 they were awarded the Revolver Golden God award. The have been compared to and associated with a number of great artists throughout their reign, some of which include All Shall Perish, Light This City, Animosity and The Funeral Pyre.
In 2008 they signed with Century Media and released their debut full length album ‘The Cleansing’. It sold 7250 copies in its first week alone and became the most successful selling debut album the record label had ever produced. The success of their album led to a world tour which culminated in the band gaining a large fan base worldwide. Their second album, ‘No Time to Bleed’ was even more successful than the first and sold double the amount of copies in its first week than their debut.
Some of the bands biggest hits include ‘You Only Live Once’, ‘No Pity for a Coward’, ‘Disengage’ and ‘Wake up’.
Emmure was first formed in 2003 when Frankie Palmeri met Ben and Joe Lionetti online, which prompted Palmeri to travel to the Lionetti’s in New Fairfield so that they could start rehearsing as a band. Bassist Mark Davis and guitarist Jesse Ketive also joined them and recorded two demos, “Nince Eleven Zero Four” and “Demo” in 2005. The demos successfully caught the attention of This City Is Burning Records who helped them release Emmure’s first EP entitled “The Complete Guide To Needlework.” The EP further led to more attention and resulted in Emmure signing with Victory Records. In 2007 the band released their first full-length album, “Goodbye To The Gallows.”
In 2008 they successfully completed their first tour of a majority of the United States, supporting various other bands such as Misery Signals, August Burns Red, and Burn Down Rome. That same summer, they went on a headlining tour with bands like Endwell, On Broken Wings and Recon. Despite the successful run of tours, the Lionetti brothers left the band, who were replaced by Mike Mulholland and Michael Kaabe. Following the small lineup change, the band released their third album, “Felony” which was released on 18 August 2009.
The group again set out on tour alongside Of Mice and Men, Pierce the Veil and In Fear And Faith. After the tour of the United States, they toured Europe with various other bands such as Parkway Drive and Comeback Kid. The band continued to successfully tour and release albums, and in 2014 released “Eternal Enemies” followed by month long promotion tour.
First off, the Orpheum is hands down the best venue in southwest fl. Whitechapel were good, however Carnifex stole the show with their intensity, sound and overall performance. Whitechapel seemed to be more about their image and how they would look in a photo rather than the show itself. All in all pretty awesome.
Currently on a massive tour of the USA, Chelsea Grin are smashing every venue along the country, from impericon festival to their own gigs, armed with killer lyrics, raucous solos and unending energy. The Band dominate every stage they are on, with their aggressive vocals, powerful death-core style and intense stage presence. Lead by screamo master Alex Koehler, the lads from Salt Lake City are metal head favourites at festivals, always surrounded by a moshpit and a crowd of devoted fans. The gigs can get rough and are not for the faint hearted, but if you love to mosh their raw, intense tunes are ideal for a headbang. Gigs result in circles of death, crowd surfing and some pretty violent moshing - so be prepared to jump, thrash and hold your ground. The band like to get up close and personal with the crowds making for an intense experience, sure to cause some good old sweaty chaos - perfect for the more experienced gig lover. The crowd goes mental from the opening song and the party keeps going right until the final moments. The band are a classic example of the mighty death-core genre, their gigs are sure to leave you breathless, sweaty and wanting more.
The Acacia Strain is a deathcore band from Chicopee Massachusetts. They're music is unrelentingly heavy and aggressive, to the point of genuinely striking fear in your heart (and in particular if you're not a really a death metal fan to begin with), but also to the point of not really being sustainable as a main headline slot - I don't mean this as a bad thing, it's actually reassuring on some level to see them as part of a larger bill with other bands, to remind you that there is other music that isn't an all-swallowing black hole of death metal. But I mean this as a compliment, and I think The Acacia Strain would probably take it as one too. They are definitely like a punch in the gut when you see them live, and Vincent Bennett's gutural vocals are really compelling in their power and the sheer sound they make. In between songs he mutters things such as "don't hate yourself, hate everybody else", and "there's too much positivity going on in music today". And then there's the crowd. I've not been to many death metal shows, but I've never quite seen anything like it, it was like full-on rioting, with punches flying, and a mosh pit that wasn't so much a 'pit' (there wasn't anyone standing still round the edges) as just all out chaos. If you're not a death metal fan but just love going to see live music, you'd be in for quite an experience going to see The Acacia Strain. Not for the faint hearted though!
Suicide Silence has been killing it since 2002. Suicide Silence have had to deal with the loss of their vocalist Mitch Lucker who passed away in a tragic motorbike accident which devastated the fans including me. I took the loss of Mitch really hard, it was like a part of me died with him. He was and still is my saving grace a long with many inspiring people. A lot of people thought that this was the end of Suicide Silence but they managed to rise from the blow. They produced a kick ass record with their new vocalist Eddie Hermida. The new record 'You Can't Stop Us' blew my mind, it was beyond phenomenal. Suicide Silence has probably one of the best relationships with us fans. We've stuck together through thick and thin. They have given us hope when we had none, they have shown us the way when all was lost. Words cannot describe the love I have for this band, I can never repay what they have done for me. Suicide Silence has become a part of who I am. Suicide Silence speak and connect to their fans in more ways than one.
Suicide Silence can announce a show, the same day that it is and fans would go out of their way to be there. Previous vocalist Mitch Lucker lived by the motto, "You only live once so go fucking nuts right?" and has passed that down to the fans. Everyone eventually loves Suicide Silence, no matter their opinion in the start. Their music is like a drug and I just can't get enough. Mitch Lucker was also famous for his signature move, The Lucker Stomp.
Well, the first thing that can be said of Emmure, is that they are one crazy, unique, and colorful band. Now that that's out of the way, if you like crazy lyrics with brutal vocals, then you have the right band. These guys are absolutely incredible live, I was lucky enough to be in the front of the pit watching them on the From Death to Destiny tour. Sadly, my venue wasn't smart enough to check how well Frankie's vocals came through before the show started due to the fact hat he screams at such a low and deep tone, that if the sound is not properly set you can lose his voice with the instruments. Despite the fact that I had to at points struggle to hear his vocals due to faulty sound settings, these guys absolutely killed it! They sounded almost identical to the way they do on records, and they have one of the most energetic stage presences that I have witnessed. I went with a group of people that part of them had never really liked Emmure before, however, once they got up there and played even they were going crazy, the guys have such an incredible vibe that it can translate throughout an entire venue. So, if you feel like going to a show with the members jumping around, going crazy, and giving their all into a performance, definitely go see Emmure!
