So it seems that retro influenced soul pop is stretching across the Atlantic, and beyond. 22 year old singer/songwriter Christopher is quite possibly the biggest success of the year from his native Denmark. Taking his cues from the likes of Aloe Blacc, Pharrell Williams, Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience, the singing sensation is a European answer to one of the more recent forms of Americana out there and he does one hell of a job at it as well. The best thing about how thrillingly retro his shtick is comes from how everything good about him can be witnessed in his live show. The boy has an unbelievable set of pipes on him; he has the charisma of a seasoned showbiz vet and a sharp-dressed backing band that he’s nigh on telepathic with. It would almost be unnerving to see someone so skilled at being a performer at such a young age if the songs were damn good as well. His brand of slick soul pop takes on a harder edged, funk influenced style when performed live and after that it just builds and builds in scale and volume driving the crowd into a frenzy in a way usually reserved for those who’ve seen at least thirty years of showbiz. Ignore the baby face, this guy is as real as it gets. He’s got the world at his feet, and you should see him as soon as possible, before everyone in the world wants to do the same!
