Alley Cat Music - Out-Of-Bounds - Öona Dahl and Jeremy Ismal performance 10-1-21
I danced the entire Öona set, 3 hours! Never left the floor. It was wonderful to see Öona, she looked younger than I remembered. A new wife, Mother and pandemic survivor. She recognized the shirt, of course. A few rifs I thought I remembered but not by name but her latest tune “Godtripper” was the highlight of the set. She was always buoyant and had a big smile on her face.
After the set ended, I worked up the courage to walk behind the green room wall, Sharpie in hand as planned to ask her to sign my shirt. She was honored and asked what to write. “Out-Of-Bounds 21,” I said, the event name. Felt the scribbling on my back and the pen back in my hand. There was the owner there, Jeremy and another shy young lady. Are you Amber Cox? She nodded, “It’s so nice to meet you.” Amber told me she flew from Colorado, when asked. Amber is a partner with Öona in their duo “Slumber” of which I’m also a big fan. The owner asked me how long I was an Öona fan and I said since 2016 at Burning Man. The hat? I made it for a halloween costume in 1986 as Halley’s Comet. Öona laughed and said, “He only goes to Öona Dahl concerts.” I mentioned that I had met her on the boat in Chicago in 2018. She nodded. The owner gave me a big hug. Öona was distracted and I said, “Goodbye.”
