Formed in 1980 by Algy Ward (previously a member of The Damned), Tank consists of Doogie White, Mick Tucker, Cliff “The Riff” Evans, Chris Dale and Steve Hopgood. In 1982 they released their debut album entitled “Filth Hounds of Hades,” which was well received by both heavy metal fans and critics; in fact, it was regarded one of the best albums during the New Wave of British heavy metal movement. Eduardo Rivadavia, an Allmusic critic, described the debut album as “Tank’s best album ever, and qualifying it as an essential item in the record collection of any serious 80s metal fan.” Despite the massive success of “Filth Hounds of Hades” Tank failed to produce successful albums. Between 1982 and 1989 they released four more albums before disbanding in 1989.
In 1997 Ward resurrected the band starting with a string of shows around Europe and Japan, followed by a new album in 2002 entitled “Still At War.” In 2008 the band experienced a lineup change consisting of Tucker, Evans, Cross, Dickinson, and Dale. In 2012 the band released their first live DVD that was recorded during one of their performances in Poland. They followed up with the album “War Nation” released in June 2013.
