The Free Label is a six piece collective from Toronto with a clear focus on funk, soul, and groove. The band is known for tight live shows, rich arrangements, and strong musical chemistry. Their sound moves between modern funk and warm soul, with space for improvisation and dynamics.
They previously toured Europe as a support act for Incognito and MonoNeon, and appeared at festivals such as Mariposa Folk Festival, Canadian Music Week, and Oakland Jazz Festival. On their second album, The Free Label collaborated with Braxton Cook, an artist who has also performed at BIRD before.
For fans of Vulfpeck, Khruangbin, Durand Jones & The Indications, and MonoNeon, this show connects straight away.
Expect an evening driven by groove, musicianship, and live energy, right at home at BIRD.
Saw the Free Label this past summer in Rockaway Beach, NY when they opened up for Ripe. Happy to say they definitely made a new fan that night! Every song was a bop, the band has a great aesthetic as a unit, and after meeting several members I'm happy to confirm that they are also super nice people! I highly recommend checking out The Free Label's catchy grooves and impeccable vibes
