The band went platinum with their song "I'm shipping up to Boston". This is one of the bands trademark song and has seen them reach great success.
In 2007 the band signed with Warner Bros. Records. After previously being signed to Hellcat Records while they were constantly touring.
The band has many influences such as: AC/DC, Stiff Little Fingers, Swinging Utters, The Ramones, The Clash and Sex Pistols, The Pogues and The Dubliners.
As of 2014 the Dropkick Murphys have released 8 albums, their most recent album "Signed and Sealed in Blood" gained positive reviews, Allmusic gave it 4 out of 5 stars. This album matched the score of their earlier album "The Meanest of Times" which contained "The State of Massachusetts" which has been named one of the 100 most played songs on U.S. modern rock radio in October 2007.
The band was formed in 1996 by partners Robert Westerholt and Sharon den Adel who have remained constants throughout the band’s career. After signing to DSFA Records, the band released their first album ‘Enter’ and immediately began touring both nationally and internationally in places like Germany and Austria.
The band took their time to develop new material and even built their own studio during off time from touring. In 2000 they released ‘Mother Earth’ which would turn out to be an important breakthrough moment for the band even if it didn’t seem so at first. After moderate sales in the album’s first few weeks, the release of the single ‘Ice Queen’ reached unexpected heights when it went to number one in the Belgian charts and forced the album up the chart. It has now sold over 750,000 copies in Europe.
This announced Within Tempation’s place as a musical force to be reckoned with and since then, all their albums have debuted at number one or two in the Dutch charts as they continue to play huge dates in even more places round the world. By 2007 they were even touring the US and UK.
Their music has appeared all over from video games like Guitar Hero to TV shows like The Tudors showing the unusually broad appeal of the band’s metal sound. With their diverse musical history the band has always had a habit of defying stereotypes and surprising listeners.
Seeing The Dropkick Murphys live was a totally amazing experience in and of itself. The second I entered the show, I was greeted by the sights and sounds of good old celtic punk. Ken Casey's uplifting and majestic voice gladly welcomed me into a realm of sweet guitarwork and overall an insane time.
The concert was packed but everyone there had one goal, to listen and to enjoy the Dropkick Murphys's killer music. I must say, being in big mosh pit while Shipping up to Boston is playing was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. Seeing this band live is highly recommended. You will not be dissapointed.
You’d think in an age where technology has progressed as far as it has now that more people would use it just to do incredibly cool stuff on a colossal scale. Cool for the sake of cool should never be avoided, especially when it comes to arena rock spectaculars, most bands on the arena circuit think it’s ok to have some strobe lights, a big screen and maybe, *maybe* some pyro if they can spare the expense. This is unequivocally not ok. If you want to be taken seriously as an unmissable live act, you might want to take a few pages out of the playbook of Dutch Symphonic Metallers Within Temptation. Because nowhere else is the aforementioned big screen going to be held in the mouths of two colossal dragon heads that breathe real fire. Sold yet? Good, cos it only gets better from here. Of course, such spectacle is nothing without the songs or the chops to back it up and you don’t have to be a member of Within Temptation’s fervent cult following to recognise that. Sharon Den Adel’s unimpeachable vocals carry the set, her operatic style amping the sturm und drang of their set up to ridiculously exciting levels as the rest of the six piece band hurl out note perfect versions of songs from their over 15 years together as a band. They’re truly on the top of their game, with no-one in the business of rocking able to top them for scale or spectacle. 2014 saw the release of their new album Hydra, so it’s only a matter of time before they reach your shores, and you owe it to yourself to check it out!
Saw these guys at The Shacklewell Arms. Had been wanting to see them a while after coming across them on Spotify. Such a high tempo punk style that’s reminiscent of The Ramones and The Vaccines, but even better. Every track keeps the same high energy tempo and doesn’t let up. Bad Nerves are gonna be ones to watch.
There was one track that started with them stood still like statues just staring at the back and it seemed to go on for ages and the crowd started to get into it and started to clap and then, BANG another track kicked in. These guys are awesome, go and see them.
