Bassjackers is the collective name for duo Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst. At the time the duo formed Marlon was already Dj-ing and Ralph was experimenting with making different kinds of dance music. Marlon was mainly playing house music at the time and then the idea came to push Ralph's productions in that direction so that Marlon could play the tracks in his sets. They merged their styles for their first collaborative track 'Beat Cut'.
They sent the track to a number of major house DJs to get feedback and hopefully support. They immediately got support from musicians including Don Diablo and Erick E. As a result 'Beat Cut' got signed at Sneakerz Muzik. After the success of their first collaboration, the band shortly followed up with 'Juicy Lucy' which was a hit on the club scenes. It gained support from radio station 3FM which gained the duo further exposure.
After that their tracks 'Enowapi' and 'Klambu' gained more support and featured on compilation albums including 'Defected' and 'One Love Compilation'. They collaborated with Dj Jorn on a track titled '16' which caused a big buzz on the blogosphere and due to the anticipation and praise it was signed to Samsobeats. Bassjackers have remixed for A-list artists like Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias and Moby and played in clubs from Ibiza alongside Tiesto, to Las Vegas alongside Afrojack, and continue to tour around the globe.
Bassjackers are the EDM music that are making waves since they formed back in 2007. One of them is a DJ and one of them is a producer, making a real dream team amongst the electronic dance music scene of right now.
The venue is a huge live festival, where this ever so slightly intoxicated crowd loose their sh*t to every drop that is built up enough with, rising sirens, and a gravelly toned dude saying “Put Your Hands Up in The Air”, where of course the beat has to be on every crotchet beat, and then every quaver beat, every semi quaver beat… etc… It’s a very standard kind of set from a DJ, however. These remixes are so epic. On of the highlights for me is a version of Disclosure’s “Latch”, where they ever so cleverly go from a real peak into the “Now I’ve got you in my space, I won’t let go of you”, inspiring a sing along all over the place.
