Anna Netrebko is a Russian Soprano. She is a very well known and respected singer, with her captivating voice complete with incredible technique and her personal charm. She is definitely a national treasure of Russia. She has reworked some of the biggest pieces in classical music into her own style, bringing to the table her world class vocal.
This evening she sings songs such as “Pie Jesu”, which hangs on some beautifully arrange suspensions, resolving into the next sections of the songs. It’s the recpitulation of the piece that really makes your hairs stand on end. Her control is so impressive, with a strong vibrato dominating her voice. She receives such a great amount of applause for her performance. She returns to the stage again to deliver a version of “Il Bacio” which knocks the audience over in surprise at the technicality of the piece. “Barcarolle” is the show-stopper of the program, bringing the house down. I’m in such awe of her talents.
