The Starwood, was located on the northwest corner of Crescent Heights Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood (then, the city of Los Angeles). The club showcased punk on a sporadic basis going back to as early as 1977, but began consistently booking punk bands in 1980. It was permanently closed down in 1981, due to the usual neighborhood complaints, although some sources have said it was due to club owner Eddie Nash's drug bust and involvement in the "Wonderland murders." The Starwood originally opened as “P.J.’s” in 1960, the first rock club established by L.A. rock club pioneer, Elmer Valentine. Valentine sold his interest in the club in 1963 and opened the Whisky in 1964.
